Junior Network Engineer

📍 Madras, OR (Some Travel)  •  Full-Time

The Role

This is not an IT helpdesk job with a fancy title. This is a real engineering role where you'll be working alongside experienced engineers on telecom, broadband, and ISP infrastructure projects across Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, and wherever else the work takes us.

We're looking for someone early in their networking career who has the fundamentals down, learns fast, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty — sometimes literally. You'll work on routing, switching, wireless, and structured cabling in environments that range from tribal broadband deployments to emergency communications sites. No two projects are the same.

You won't be thrown in the deep end alone. You'll work directly with our senior engineers and pick up real-world skills faster than you would at most companies. If you're hungry to build a career in network engineering — not just punch tickets — this is the job.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with configuration and deployment of routers, switches, and wireless infrastructure
  • Support senior engineers on network design and implementation projects
  • Perform site surveys and document existing network environments
  • Troubleshoot layer 2/3 issues in the field and remotely
  • Assist with ISP and WISP deployments including IP addressing, VLANs, and routing
  • Help commission Starlink and bonded internet solutions for remote clients
  • Maintain accurate documentation and network diagrams
  • Travel to project sites as needed (Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Hawaii)

What We're Looking For

  • CCNA or equivalent certification — or actively working toward it
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP basics), and switching
  • Comfortable with Cisco, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, or similar vendor equipment
  • 0–3 years of hands-on networking experience (internships and lab work count)
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts — you think methodically, not randomly
  • Reliable, shows up on time, communicates clearly
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Able to travel for multi-day project deployments

The Honest Part

You will occasionally be configuring gear in a equipment shed in rural Alaska or on a rooftop in 95° Maui heat. You'll work with clients who have high expectations and aging infrastructure. The pace is real. So is the experience you'll gain. If you want to sit in an air-conditioned NOC and watch dashboards all day, we're probably not the right fit. If you want to build your skills on projects that actually matter to real communities, we are.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience and certifications
  • Direct mentorship from senior engineers — real knowledge transfer, not busywork
  • Travel to Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, and beyond — on our dime
  • Exposure to ISP, tribal broadband, emergency comms, and enterprise network projects
  • A small team where your work actually gets noticed
  • Room to grow quickly as the company grows
